I'm pretty sure it can be discussed here without biased opinions.

I have only played MSG and MSG:SOL Right now I'm playing MSG Sons of Liberty again. I like MSG for it's story and the great cutscenes. But at the same time they overdo it, it's walk a few steps and get a long cutscene. I have nothing against long cutscenes and i wish SF would have long cutscenes. But it's really annoying at the start with Raiden, walk and you get a call, cutscene.

The menu of switching weapons is great in MSG, I like it better than in SF. Something I always disliked about MSG's is the camera, at least there should have been a 3rd person view like how SF is all the time.

I have more fun with the SF missions than the MSG missions. So yeah for me SF outshines MSG. Maybe that will change after I play MSG Snake Eater.

EDIT: After almost beating SOL again I actually played this game only for the story. I'm also very disappointed about the lousy difficulty, ok you can play European Extreme. But that's just lazy, did the AI become smarter? NO! They are still dumb. SF would be harder too if you were killed in 3 shots, but that's just cheap. MSG seems so far more a movie than a game. Only the very deep storyline makes up for all weak spots of MSG. I like MSG but i love SF.

I'm about the finish MSG SOL and start with Snake Eater.

Another EDIT:
I have finished SOL and started playing MGS3. I also noticed I'm used to call Metal Gear Solis MSG in stead of MGS. Anyway those long cutscenes are what I really like. I just defeated 8 of Ocelot's men, it's funny how enemies are so open to each other and talk longer than they fight. I can see already the story is very deep. The wounds treating is and stuff makes this game very realistic. It already makes you feel you are on a real mission. About even with SF:TOS with the Zues files. I also love the real life lessons you can learn from the game. Also the fun stuff besides it like Paramedic tells you about video takes and movies where you can move your own character. Well what am I playing now eh? Quite a movie MGS can be :)

I'm a big fan of both series. They each have their stronger and weaker points.

I've played SF more than MGS. I'd say it's because I almost see MGS as some sort of movie. I mean that I play MGS mainly for the storyline (not that the other aspects are weak, but the story is what really sets this series apart). It's like a good movie : you don't want to watch it too many times in a short period of time, otherwise you'll get bored.

I also love the storyline in SF, but there are other aspects which makes me stick to my screen. You have to play SF and focus on the story at least once! But I can play this game only for the fun of playing more easily than with MGS.

As I said before I also play mainly for the story. MSG3 has one of the best graphics I have ever seen. Again a great story but not as deep like MSG2 or MSG1. The end part (Not that boss) was very great, the best of all. I just wished MSG had more of that in their games. The bosses.. some were lame and some were great like Ocelot, The End, The Fury (I loved this fight, guess why) and The Boss.

I actually thought the story of MGS3 was as deep as the other two. I also like the setting. The fact that it is in the past makes the game more down to earth. With MGS2, some things were higly science-fictionnal. Not that I don't like that, but it's also good to have something closer to us.

I think MGS2 is quite close to us except for the patriot things. In MGS3 you do not get to know about the cobra unit except their emotions. In MGS2 you get to know Deadcell and MGS1 about the FOXHOUND members. There wasn't much surprise for me in MGS3 too. It's nice to see my favorite villain Ocelet again.

I think he should have looked more like the old Ocelet. I hated how Eva was a whore after all, except you don't pay her. Even saving her life twice is not enough. Pretending she's grateful just to backsteb him when Big Boss is of no use to her anymore. She got to be the worst whore ever. Something simalar is already done is MGS2. I would have been surprised if she decided to stay.

Also the death of Emma who you met only an hour ago seems much more sad than The Boss' death. Emma's death is a scene I shed tears each time I see it.

MGS3 seems to get a little "final fantasy" things. Like when The Fury dies a firesnake chases Big Boss. Also those supernatural powers that The Pain and Fear have are lame. I am the Pain, THE PAIN yes the Pain pain, I will make you feel pain. I am The Fear and I will give you fear you have never experienced before.

I'm a fan of Final Fantasy but those fantasy things have no place in a shooter game. That doesn't mean I hate MGS3, it has a lot of great things as well, like CQC.
