Well don't forget the standards in Japan are lot lower then what they are in the rest of the world. But actually critism was made against Policenauts by critics in Japan for being able to sexually harass women, but the rest of the content was never commented. In Snatcher you could do things like that (note this was only in the Japanese version) except they never showed any animation and plus there were consequences implemented (often hilarous).

I've always felt like Japan was a place of extremes. Whatever they do, it's always like if they would push it to the maximum of where it can go.
