I think that now's the time to open a subject on Ace Combat series because the bast game topic wasn't the right place. I'll place all important stuff that I've posted on other topics.

Mmm... Gran Turismo players, hum ? Well, I used to play those games but for a short time. Simulation isn't my style. I like visual tuning (but I always put the best performance brands on a car) that lets me create a nice look. I especially admire the ones that are using all kinds of shapes to create amazing designs.

Nevertheless, nothing's better than a Hollywood-based scenario in a game. For that I often look in unpopular series. Just take a look at those games and you could be very surprised. For example, the Ace Combat series (aerial fighting game) are based on a fictive world, but every place you go to battle is very complete. Every character has its own story. Every country is fictive (but there are a lot of similarities to the real ones) and wants peace or war. So, without using any real country, the developers has come to a war between Osea (like USA) and Yuktobania (like Russia). So this is almost what you can expect of a war between the two world's superpowers. It's amazing to see, to play, and even to live.

Ace Combat Zero & 5 stories :
Countries :
- Osea (USA)
- Yuktobania (Russia)
- Belka (Germany)
- Ustio (UK)
- Sapin (Spain)

The whole story starts in 1988. Belka, suffering from economic strife, permitted its eastern territory to secede. The Republic of Ustio was born. But Belka's economic troubles did not subside. So, an extreme party took power of the country, aiming to restore strenght and stability to the nation. They builded their army to unprecedented heights. And on March 26, 1995, with the discovery of natural ressources in Ustio, Belka began to invade its neighbors. It was the beginning of the Belkan War. Unprepared, each country fell quickly under the power of the mighty Belkan army. In just a few days, they occupied all Ustio's territories except for the mountain range. The last ones that were able to save the country was a group of mercenaries located at Valais Air Base. And on that base was a pilot who trailed across the sky. He has been nicknamed "Demon Lord". He has been an amazing ace pilot during this war. He almost saved an entire country by himself. The player plays as this Demon Lord. The battles dured about 3 months. Then the Belka, that has been pushed on their own country, fighting defensively, commited the unthinkable. They set off seven nuclear weapons on their own soil, seeing this tragedy unfold before their own eyes. Then they declared to the world that the land to the north was the holy land of Belka. According to official records, more than 12,000 people - all Belkans - died. It was a grand self-sacrifice, or suicide, that engulfed all. Anyway, the world was once again at peace, and thanks to them it seemed it would last forever. 15 years later, some unknown planes entered Osean airspace, attacked, and killed eight people. Then, on September 24, 2010, a squadron called Wardog from an aerial base called Sand Island shots down 20 of these unknown planes. The capitain of Wardog gets shot down too by an unidentified ship. Then the identity of the unknown enemy gets revealed when Yuktobania declares war on Osea. Wardog squadron recieves an urgent mission. Without any capitain, the team declares Blaze, that is the pilot played by the player, as the new squadron leader. Soon after the war begins, an enormous Yuke submarine is detected hanging in the north of Yuktobania, in a sea called Razgriz Sea. This name cames from a legend that says that there is a demon in the cold waters of the Straits. "When history witnesses a great change, Razgriz reveals itself, first, as a dark demon. As a demon, it uses its power to rain death upon the land, and the it dies. However, after a period of slumber, Razgriz returns, this time as a great hero." Then the Wardog Squad destroys that large submarine in less than 5 minutes with only four planes. So Wardog Squad begins to be nicknamed the Razgriz Squad. The war continues until December 7th, 2010. Then a traitor that is believed to be a Yuktobania is found within Sand Island. He says that the Razgriz Squad are traitors too (but it's not the truth), so they are being chased from their base and finally escape with four training jets. They later get shot down by a pilot called Swordsman, fron the Naval Air Force. A rescue helicopter comes for them, and reports that they all sank with their plane. So all of the Yuktobanian Army believes that they are dead for real, but that rescue helicopter secretly recovered them and bringed them back to their aircraft carrier. It's there that they discover a part of the truth. The Osean President and the Yuke Prime Minister that are anti-war leaders are found held in secret places, in Belka, their old enemy. So everybody starts to understand the full truth. The war has been arranged by this country to make the two superpowers, that crushed them 15 years ago, to start a war. They use their own forces to make sure the war continues, hoping that the war would eventually exhaust them both. So Razgriz Squad liberates the Osean President, then the Yuke PM, to help them recover the power of their countries. It doesn't work a the first try, and the heroes have to fight sometimes in Yuke territory, sometimes in Belkan territory. So the Yuke army believes that Razgriz is back. They get the nickname of "The Ghosts Of Razgriz". After clearing enemy resistance, they engage a final battle. Belka, as a final assault, has decided to use a satellite charged with a new-gen weapon called V2, that can wipe out everything in a circle of about a thousans miles radius. This bomb is very futurist. So Razgriz Squad gotta save the people that are being targeted by the explosion. They destroy the V2 about 40 miles from its final destination, so it doesn't explode. Then they disappear from history without a trace...

Huge story isn't it ? Well, it's the best scenario ever for me. AC4 one is amazing too, but maybe try searching for this one 'cause I'm very tired of writing down every story :lol:

Anyway, I will probably be back with the HAWX scenario. It's another aerial combat game, but this time, it's in the real world. It harld ressembles to the one in Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1 & 2, and is written by Tom Clancy. It will be on stores January 13, 2009. There will be also another game called EndWar that sould be interesting. I'll give you some news...

Apart of that, I've found great videos. Those are all the scenes from the game.

* Scenes 1-5
* Scenes 6-13
* Scenes 14-17
* Scenes 18-20
* Scenes 21-25
* Scenes 26-29
* Last scenes & credits

Take a look at the credits; the pictures that are behind are just awesome. Those are places in their fictive world.

Normal missiles are guided by radar, and doesn't travel most than 10,000ft.

But there are QAAMs (Quick-maneuvring Air to Air Missiles). Those have a very long range, but they aren't controlling well. So when they miss a target they will do circle around it to try to take them on unless they come to a maximum distance.

There are also SAAMs (Semi-active Air to Air Missiles) that will only track a target when it is into the steering circle that appears in the center of the screen. But they have an amazing ability to move.

But the best missiles are the MPBMs (Multi-Purpose Burst Missile). They are guided by radar, but they will explode close to a target, not only when a contact is made. So they are almost undodgeables.

The only missiles you can control so much are the bombs. You can let them anywhere you want to destroy multiple targets at once.

Here's the opening credits of Zero. You'll see a lot of information about the story :

I just found a lot of key cinematics. There is no precise order, but some of the videos are in two parts. For example, you have The Fallen 1 and The Fallen 2. The little problem here is that subtitles are in Japanese, so make sure you don't miss any part. I played around Ace Combat 5 about 10 times and I'm still learning about the story.

The cinematics are here : http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=simingx&view=videos

Also some of the videos could be similar to another. This is just because the game will diplay videos based on which way you fly.

Okay I've got all you need to know thw whole story of the Ace Combat Series :
http://acecombat.wikia.com/

You will find here almost everything related to all wars and also events that aren't present in any of the games.

I now hope that this will help us talk about other great games in other topics.

That's good idea you had there. Thanks!

Is there an on-line on any of the AC games? If it does, what's it like?

The only plane game I've played and owned was Ultimate Air Combat on my NES It didn't have online, but it had a great story (sarcaism).

It's about some country's leader is invading it neighbouring countries. In a bid to gain all of the world's oil resources. Sounds familar? It was made shortly after the first gulf war began. Anyway the US governorment has given one pilot (you) the task to stop this villian.

I might give Ace Combat a shot, since you speak highly of it. If the plot is good as you say, thats convincing enough for me.

The only game I've played that comes close to a plane game is Rogue Squadron ! I had a lot of fun with this game, besides the fact that I was a huge Star Wars fan.

I don't like Star Wars games. I own Episode One on the PS1. Love how you can slauter all the civilians and not get Game Over. Killing Anakin and screaming at the game over screen "Trying to save the universe".

Hate Battlefront, guess it counts as a flying game. My friend loves it, but I play it with anyway. The controls and gameplay is to complex.

In an ironic twist, I recently brought a game off ebay and the bonus game was Battlefront!

I recently tried Blazing Angels 2 : Secret Missions Of WWII. The thing is nice, but I still prefer Ace Combat because of... well, almost everything in it.

I hope that the new Tom Clancy's HAWX will be interesting too.

The only game close to a plane game I've played is Rogue Squadron, so I don't know much about the rest of them.

I tried Ace Combat 6 on a friend's console and on a HDTV yesterday. The game is just beautiful.

I've taken a look at a few screenshots and it looks very impressive indeed.
