This just made me cry, they insulted my favourite Syphon Filter and my favourite PS1 game which I finished about 30 times in the last 7 years.

Its not that hard! They just are poor game players who play puzzle games.

I would like to see them make a game.

Yeah, real no brainers... I mean they have the right not to like this game, but they spend half their time saying 12-year-old stuff like "huh, Gabe didn't nail Lian Xing!". They do make some points, in between those lazy jokes, but I think the whole point of that review was only to make pre-teenagers laugh.

I just would not give those people too much attention, because that is what they are seeking.

And I agree with you: they look like poor players to me too. SF2 is a hard game, but I've seen much harder challenges. Some people have more talent for some game types, and less for other. For instance, I'm a very average player in lots of games, but I'm rather good at Syphon Filter. But if you played just a little more than 10 video games in your life, you've probably came across some toughest puzzles than finding the tear gas launcher in the Moscow Street level.

I do understand some points too, but they simply admitted that they sucked at the game. But finding your objectives was quite a nightmare for me too when I didn't have walkthroughs to help me out. They should have provided you with more than 1 way to deal with situations in SF2.

I agree. Also when I played SF2 for the first time, my English was not as good as it is now, so I had sometimes trouble understanding what exactly the objectives were.

I think they sometimes could have given more hints so that we could figure out more easily what to do. But in the end, you often realize that what you couldn't find out was actually way more simple than you imagined.

Surely you could have imported a French copy of Syphon Filter 2? Was it even releaed in French?

Yes it was. However, for some reason the French translations are rarely released in Canada. Probably because we are too small a market, and because buyers here never really ask for the French versions.

But I'm glad I had the English version. Not only did it helped me big time with my English, but I've never really liked translations. I just feel like you loose something. Besides, I don't know why but French, although a beautiful language, doesn't sound as serious to me when used with a military jargon. I just think English fits better such context, but I can hardly explain why.

In Australia we get the European versions of games and can be played in every major language in Europe (German, English, Spanish, French and Italian).

I played Logan's Shadow in French, and you are right a French accent doesn't sound serious with a character like Gabe. It was funny how he had a very high accent, when his English accent is very deep and tough.

But don't forget that Napolean the greatest army general who conqued all of Europe (except England) was French.

I've heard only a little Gabe's voice in French, but I know the man who plays it. His name is Stéphane Cornicard. If you saw the movie Saving Private Ryan, there's a seen where a French father wants to give his daughter to the American soldiers, before they are ambushed by a sniper. Well the father is Cornicard. He even came to this very forum a few years ago.

Anyway, it's kind of ironic that you in Australia can play the French version of almost every game, whereas we in French Canada don't have access the most of the games in French. Not that I am very concerned about it, because even if we did I would still play in English. But I know that many people here fight actively to see compagnies release French versions in Canada too.

I've got Saving Private Ryan on DVD. I will have to look out for that next time.

The reason why Canadian games don't come in French, is because you guys get the US (region NTSC) versions of games before the game is released in Europe. By that the time the game has even been translated in other languages. In Australia we have the same region as Europe, PAL so by thats why we get the games in other languages.

You're right. Yet, some companies have started to give consideration to our demands. Now the game booklets come in double: one English edition and one French. Only a couple of years ago, that wasn't the case. And we even see a few games released in French too. It's a tiny number, but it's better than nothing.

But again you're right. It's not profitable for companies to release a seperate version for a region populated by only 6 million people and which is furthermore right beside the US. And the PAL version couldn't be shipped here because we have different TV resolution (maybe it's not the resolution, but you know that thing which makes our TVs different from yours). So you are kind of prisonner of our geographic situation.

I prefer English all the way, I have some games in Dutch. Convenient yes, but the quality of voice acting and translating isn't that great. Especially when memorable lines are used.
