I like shocking ending, although they... shock me. It's at least different from the classic blockbuster happy ending.

Mafia had a tremendously good storyline and the game itself created a fascinating atmosphere. I can't wait to see what Mafia 2 will be like.

It is a happy ending yet realistic at the same time. It shows how persistant the MOB is and they won't easily die out even after Tommy puts them into a difficult situation. Money makes the impossible - possible.

But I also think GTA:SA has a good story. A boy Carl and his family who is poor and lives on the street having no choice but to steal to survive. As if things aren't bad enough he get's caught up in gang wars. And with the police being corrupt the streets are a living hell, their officer is Tenpenny who makes deals with all gangs. One of these gang wars lead to Carl's brother's death and he leaves the gang for 5 years. During those years things only get worse and Tenpenny orders gangsters to kill Carl's mother.

Carl returns but is arrested by Tenpenny, who killed a good officer, but frames it on Carl. However he is released so Tenpenny can use him. What Tenpenny tries to do it setting bad guys on bad guys, while he silences his own police officers who don't agree.

Carl returns home and sees how bad things have become. Drugs have made things a lot different, a lot of Carl's friends are either dead or joined the enemy gang The Ballas. Carl's gang is called the Grove Street Families, one of the few gangs are don't allow the use of drugs or deal drugs.

While Carl starts off as a standard gangster, certain events makes his change. And starts doing good things, he together with his friends stop a huge drug organisation. Dealing a huge blow to 3 MOBs at once, defeating the violent and drug dealing gangs and stops the corrupt department of the police. With one gang victorious most gang violence and drug dealing has been seriously reduced and the corrupt police is no more.

What I also like is that why Carl did this is up to you. GTA:SA leaves a role playing element that can make you good, nuetral or evil. You can say he did everything to become rich and for his own greedy self. Ingame you can drive like a maniac, kill innoncent people/police officers etc.

Or you can be lawful and not break the rules, avoid killing innoncent people unles it's mandatory. Which is only in the beginning. For the rest Carl is someone who is always willing to help out his friends. In the beginning he trusts his friends too much which leads to killing innoncent people, kinda like Gabe killing the test subjects. In the end Carl ends up with 12 good people who he helped get their lifes back on their feet.

I don't see much kiddy humor in GTA:SA, except on the radio which can be turned off and replaced by your own music (On the PC).

I'm more the kind of player who would stand by the (in-game) laws. I hate free violence, even in a game. Yet, you're right the storyline in San Andreas doesn't seem bad. I remember that Vice City was more simplistic.

In my opinion Vice City wasn't a great game, but Vice City Stories was in my opinion worse (That one explains how things went before VC) and never even finished it.

SA is very cheap now so you could give it a shot, I think you miss out a lot by not playing it. Just set your own laws and reload the game if you break them.

I already own Vice City, San Adreas and Liberty City Stories. Actually they belong to my brother, but I can play them whenever I like.

I suggest to at least beat GTA:SA to see what it's like. For the quality of most missions I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed, however there are some that will be very frustrating when you play the first time.

Yeah I already had trouble in Vice City. The gameplay, especially during shooting sequences, doesn't really get to me.

San Andreas a lot better than Vice City, SA pretty much has the same shooting features as a Syphon Filter game. Roll, strafe, auto and manual aim, crouch etc. That is what attracted me to GTA:SA.

How about we start a GTA topic ? ;)

Than I should give SA a try. Also, I bought Liberty City Stories to my brother who's a big fan of the series. I know you said VC Stories was bad, but what about that one?

You are playing as a bad guy there, but he's very loyal even though he could join a stronger MOB he stays loyal. I don't think you ever HAVE to kill an innoncent person in that game. A lot of missions very great and full of action. However it has the controls of GTA3. Besides that you will want to play GTA3 too. Both are good, it's not a very hard game to get into. Vice City is a lot harder. This is my second favorite GTA.

I recommend you to play GTA:SA first, because it happened before LCS and one large event that happens in SA is connected to LCS. Even though it's optional it is considered canon and that mission is so much fun.

And if you have trouble with some missions, I will help out the best I can. Oh yeah one things that REALLY bothers me in SA is the constantly bad language.

But isn't strong language a part of the game, since it takes place in the streets, in the criminal world?

I'm not bothered by bad language as long as it serves the purpose of the scenario. Some great movies have very bad language in it because they want to recreate an environment that bad language was a part of.

I never see the use of mindless use of bad language without reason. It kills the purpose, sure it's terrible on the streets but that doesn't mean you have to use strong language each minute. If that doesn't bother you, then there's no reason not play through GTA:SA at least once.

So what are you waiting for? ;) I know you don't play much but most missions don't take longer than 15 minutes to beat.

By the way I've joined SF Central too, some discussions are really interesting :) I'll talk about that later in a different topic.

Ok, you've convinced me to give San Andreas a chance. But first I have a few games I have to finish (as part of my nostalgic tour!), e.i. Spyro the Dragon and Medievil.

I've already joined SF Central, but I don't go often on their forum because... I just forget to! But I know there is a good community of SF fans there.

Ok this may sound very ironic, lately I convinced you to play. But since tuesday I got a girlfriend and she probably doesn't like games with a lot of swearing, prostitution and heavy violence. Inother words I threw all my GTA games in the trash can (Even my not yet played GTA4  ) and uninstalled and deleted everything permanently. I've decided to change my life and start a new one.

Don't worry I will still check here like I used to since that barely costs any time but someday I might quit gaming completely. No I don't think it's a bad hobby but I've spent so many hours on it I think enough for 3 lifetimes... So time to let that go someday. I'm making totally different video's too like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8iyNBLDelQ&fmt=18
Never realized I love nature that much that I would seek 90 great pictures with nice piano music and make a slideshow of it, hope you enjoy it.

I am Christian and believe it, but always had trouble keeping faith but now I will try harder. Don't worry I'm not going to talk about it if you don't want to. Forcing it onto others will only cause resent against Christians. I dislike arguments about religion because they are so pointless since none of the sides give in, unles one of the sides has doubts in what he she is doing.

Woa !
Didn't see that one coming! Well, spending less time with video games might just do good to you. I also had a period where I though of almost completely giving up playing when I got my girlfriend (who wasn't into video games at all!). But I progressively came back to it a little. I don't spend much time into it, but I like a good game from time to time. And my girlfriend is ok with that (anyway she wouldn't have a word to say against it!): she made peace with video games!

Anyway, I wish you can give your life the turn you expect it to take, and that it'll be for the best. Give me some news when you can!

Take care !

Hey it's been almost 2 months and we're doing really good. I have a short break from my work so I have a chance to play some games, she doesn't mind it at all as it is my own responsebility.

No women is ever going to tell me to stop playing games without coping an earful of verbal abuse! :x
But that's just my opinion, maybe one day some super babe could possibly drag me away from the gaming room… maybe.

Anyway, good luck to ya mate. Women are always going to be the best thing on this planet.

Well if I'd rather play games than hang out with my girlfriend then I simply didn't find the right woman. But that's not the case, games barely cross my mind when I'm with her. :) But saying that they are the best "thing" on this planet goes a little too far. There are so many great things in life :D

An update, even this is really off-topic. Me and my girlfriend had a wonderful Christmas. So here and now we play games together, it's really fun. It's already 4 and half a month that our relationship started. Time sure goes by fast, not only that but I have a nice job as well which should help a lot for later.

I hope everyone here had a good Christmas en I wish you all a happy and health 2009!
