You are right in one sense, e.i. DM and LS provides storyline that are not linked to the virus affair, which ended in The Omega Strain. It is true that strickly talking, the series could have ended there. DM and LS are more like a gift for SF fans: the storyline compares to other action/espionnage games, but it still has some feeling (created by the caracters being the same, most of all) of being part of the series we liked so much. I think DM and LS find their justification in the fact that, although the virus affair is behind, there are still paths left unexplored concerning the main characters (we learn a lot about Gabe in DM). These two games then bring that conclusion that was missing, the storyline being more of a pretext to it.
