I was wondering if you people play GTA's. I never had much love for GTA games because I didn't like many shooter games or car/bike etc. games. Then GTA came out for the Pc, most of my classmates played it and saw some parts of it.

So I decided to buy it for the PS2 and loved it. GTA or SF? I don't know, I haven't played GTA enough to decide, but they are both great.

The missions range from very much fun to very boring. Some are easy, some are damn hard. Some missions seem like SF. But I like you have to walk/drive to mission locations. Also you are the for the biggest part the bad guy.

There's so much to do, fighting gang wars, stir up trouble with the cops, using a plane and have an air war against the cops.
Blow up as many things as possible, rob valuebles from people at night, play the police yourself and kill criminals.

But there are many other things to do besides fighting like working on your looks by paying the barber, tatoo's, clothing shops a visit. Or play the nice guy for once and drive an ambulance and get wounded people, dance at the beach, spray your gang sign at walls, date a girl, deliver pizza's, gambling all your cash at a casino, illegal racing.

The voilence is by many people called extreme, but I don't see it as more voilent than SF's. Cursing, swearing is very common, like motherfucker is nothing special, something I don't like but gotta live with it, they are gangsters after all.

And some missions are very annoying or boring. Like having to steal a harvester from farmers to help someone produce weed..... Just stupid.

The combat system (I'm talking about shooting) is quite the same as SF, you can crouch, roll, auto aim, shoot, jump, run. Manual aim isn't used much on the PS2 version. But the combat system is by far not as good as SF.

GTA:SA is a very entertaining game, I have never seen a game that has so many different things to do as this one. GTA:SA is so far the most entertaining game I have played, but SF series remain the best shooter game. I'll try out Vice City soon.

My brothers bought Vice City and San Andreas for the PS2.

Actually, I really dislike these games. It's not the genre in general that I don't like, it's really this series in particular. I just don't like the satire feeling that brings a lot of free violence. It's also too much unrealistic for my tastes.
One superb game that's in the same genre, but completly different at the same time, is Mafia. Trully a masterpiece. If it could have a map as juge as the one in San Andreas, and many more sidequests, Mafia would have been one of the best games ever!

If there's only one thing I like from GTA however, it's the radio. That's very funny!

I take it as a great game too, but i wish there would be more gunfighting missions... (that's what i love the most in mercenaries )

And i just love all the second degres the game has.

What's the story of Mafia about? Maybe I'll buy that game

The story takes place in the late 30's and is about a guy, Tommy Angelo, who goes to this meeting with a police officer in a restaurant. He says he have a proposition that may be beneficial for both of them. Angelo is actually in big troubles and need the protection of the police. He agrees in exchange to tell him all information he has about the Mafia and one of its leader, Don Salieri. Then the game starts: you'll play as Tommy from the moment he got hired in the Mafia to the one were he gets in that trouble. Meanwhile, you'll have played many really cool missions.

The game is a 3rd person shooter, but it also involved a lot of driving. It's there that it meets up with GTA, in a sense. You'll often have to drive to several places where you're mission takes place. And you can spend a lot of time wandering about in the city.
The atmosphere of America in the 30's is so great, you really can feel it. And the game has some impressive graphics too.

I'm sold But I have to wait for a while for some $$$$

The PC version is like 15€.

Yeah, it came out a while ago so you can probably get it for cheap. Besides, it must be possible to find used versions even cheaper.

Just don't have time playing that game while I first replay GTA:SA and then start GTA:VC.

I attained 100% on GTA: SA a couple of weeks ago, it was my second playthrough of that game and I really enjoyed it.
I have liked the GTA series since GTA III was released mainly because of all the side missions. But I would say that I enjoyed attaining 100% in Vice City more that SA, it's just a little too ghetto for me with all the swearing.
And there is one other aspect of SA that I don't like, you seem to have to murder someone every second mission or so.

Eh you also have to kill tons of people in SF.. What's the difference? And Gabe_Logan2 this game isn't all about violence. You can kill anyone on the streets if you want, but you don't have to. CJ (Who you play as) isn't good nor evil.

I've picked up the PC version, version 2 but it isn't a big deal. The stuff is way more detailed and looks much better. Also you can make your homies almost invincible by changing the 'pedstats' file with notepad GANG2. But do it after 'Sweet's girl' mission since you have to fight some of your ex-allies there they will be a pain to kill then.
I hated how useless they are normally. But having 'Smartjoy' a USB thing that can let you play with the PS2 joystick is much easier. You can also aim with the mouse which make missions like 'Air Raid' 'Just business' better to aim. The manual aim is something that is weak in GTA:SA.

I know you don't have to kill pedestrians and I never did when I played... well, not on purpose that is.
But I don't really like all the ghetto environment anyway. And that fact that you can do almost everything and unless you kill someone in front of a police or bumb into their car, they won't chase you.

In Mafia, the police is a major factor. If you speed up (the limit is 50 mph everywhere), they'll chase you and give you ticket. Now if you commit a bigger offense, you can be arrested or even shot dead, if it is really bad (like firing a gun when police officers are around). Also, although a simple ticket won't do you anything (there's no money so you don't have to pay anything, you just take the ticket), if you're catched speeding more then twice, this time you'll get jailed.
Anyway, this makes the game a lot more realistic because you can't fool around as easily as in games like GTA.

The police are powerless against gangs that's why they don't bother coming after you in many cases. Would you want to be a police guy in a city where tons of gangsters will shoot you?

The police does come after me if I kill someone from a distance. I guess you like realistic games.

Ok I have just made a mod that increases the difficulty of gunfights. You can compare it to European Extreme from MGS because you are wasted before you know it. Hard Mode is 3x harder cops are insane you better not commit any needless crime now!!! Check it for more info, hopefully it willget approval soon.
