I'm pretty sure it can be discussed here without biased opinions.
I have only played MSG and MSG:SOL Right now I'm playing MSG Sons of Liberty again. I like MSG for it's story and the great cutscenes. But at the same time they overdo it, it's walk a few steps and get a long cutscene. I have nothing against long cutscenes and i wish SF would have long cutscenes. But it's really annoying at the start with Raiden, walk and you get a call, cutscene.
The menu of switching weapons is great in MSG, I like it better than in SF. Something I always disliked about MSG's is the camera, at least there should have been a 3rd person view like how SF is all the time.
I have more fun with the SF missions than the MSG missions. So yeah for me SF outshines MSG. Maybe that will change after I play MSG Snake Eater.
EDIT: After almost beating SOL again I actually played this game only for the story. I'm also very disappointed about the lousy difficulty, ok you can play European Extreme. But that's just lazy, did the AI become smarter? NO! They are still dumb. SF would be harder too if you were killed in 3 shots, but that's just cheap. MSG seems so far more a movie than a game. Only the very deep storyline makes up for all weak spots of MSG. I like MSG but i love SF.
I'm about the finish MSG SOL and start with Snake Eater.
Another EDIT:
I have finished SOL and started playing MGS3. I also noticed I'm used to call Metal Gear Solis MSG in stead of MGS. Anyway those long cutscenes are what I really like. I just defeated 8 of Ocelot's men, it's funny how enemies are so open to each other and talk longer than they fight. I can see already the story is very deep. The wounds treating is and stuff makes this game very realistic. It already makes you feel you are on a real mission. About even with SF:TOS with the Zues files. I also love the real life lessons you can learn from the game. Also the fun stuff besides it like Paramedic tells you about video takes and movies where you can move your own character. Well what am I playing now eh? Quite a movie MGS can be
