I'm a hardcore RPG fan. Games like Final Fantasy, Grandia, Breath of Fire. I also love Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors. You have to control a general and fight in wars, execute strategies etc. I just picked up Age of Empires III, it's pretty good.

I have not much love for shooter games... But there are only a few games that went through my hardcore RPG spirit. Yes it is Syphon Filter, but also Metal Gear Solid and GTA:San Adreas.

I don't really like RPG, but there is ont exception: FFVIII (which happened to be one of the less appreciated RPG... that's odd, isn't it?).

I like some type of shooters, but the gameplay isn't one of the most important aspect to me. My two favourite series are undeniably Syphon Filter and Metal Gear Solid, which happened to be two 3rd person shooters. But most of all, what both series have in common is their incredibly intense storyline. That is the most important factor of appreciation in my case.

I also like some 1st person shooter, especially the Jedi Knight series. I also own Vietcong, which is very nice although not the game of the century.

One other series I really love, although I'm not necessarily a fan of the genre, is Gran Turismo. I've got them all and I've spend tons of hours on each.

There are many other games I've played and enjoyed, but these are the most notable.

I like sports games like PES (even if it has many bugs) where you can edit players (very important to me). I like Cycling manager 3 too (a bit old now).

Concerning the FPS (first person shoot, or third like SF), the environnement and the atmosphere of the game is very important : I prefer something very realistic, without super-powered guys or monsters or knights, something that could happen nowadays... SF is perfect, i like "No one live for ever 2" too.

I play to "Pirates!" and counter-strike too. ( i'm trying to make the map of Ukraine for CS)

Yup, me too. But I'm not against a some sci-fi or fantastic elements, like there is in MGS. As long as it remains somehow true to life.

Totaly agree, Starship Troopers is my favorite film and Commando-like video game (the FPS released recently is a complete crap...), because that's what i love to call "realistic science-fiction" (Stargate too, rhaaa, i love that film... but the serie would gain a huge credibility without that Mac Gayver...), the rifles they use are bullpup (about all last generation firearms are : P 90, F 2000, AICW, TAR-21, L-85, ...) , their helmet are able to display an HUD (curently on study), the governement looks like some kind of mix between nazism and communism (that's how i see the world in 2040 or even before...), etc... (but why that film is my favorite is because of the omnipresent second degres and the exagerate free violence :P )

About my games, I really hate RPG (the only one i liked a bit was FFVIII (him again...) especially the final exam for the academy when you land on the beach to kick those red soldier's butts). I really hate heroic fantaisy as well, and commonly, everything that doesn't look like happening in the 20th century. So i enjoy some RTS like Act Of War (about an oil crisis - that remind me something...- ), Conflict Zone (about those mediatic wars), the first red alert (the others C&C really piss me off with plasma guns and all...), etc... And tactal games too : Full Spectrum Warrior, Jagged Alliance² (rhaaa, the only thought of it make me dribble...), Advance War (thank you, visualboy advance...), ...

But the genre i play the most is shooters. From realistic shooters like, Ghost Recon (yeah, the second was a real ruin, but you HAVE to play the exclusive PS² version, Jungle Storm  ), Operation Flashpoint (aaaaaaaargh), Rainbow Six, Vietcong (that i bought recently, great game but the only working tactic is to pin down the ennemy with your squad and go round them, just like Brothers in arms - but in BiA you don't really have the choice... -, or i'm a big wuss...), to more 'classic' ones like UT (i downloaded the version 2004 three days ago, very funny - yeah i know, but i didn't managed to find it :? -), serious sam (ideal to forget a hard day at work...), etc...

And hybrids, Freedom Fighters (MY best-for-life-favorite-ever), Mercenaries (in my opinion, one of the best console game with MGS³ and Omega Strain) or BF² (in theory, a great tactical game. On the field, a complete mess...).

Ho, and I hate survival horrors, too slow, no action, 12 clips to kill something... (yes, i bought RE4, but it's more like an action game to me...)

And I forgot to mention that I live survival horrors! (thanks Doc!) Well, actually not all of them, but one series in particular: Silent Hill. This is the true essence of survival horror. I've played some Resident Evil, and my favourite was RE2 (I haven't really enjoyed the others I've tried). Anyway, SH really is one step ahead of the genre average game.

Syphon Filter is TOTALLY unrealistic. The characters you play as especially Gabe are unreal. I see it right before me that Gabe can take down the Agency with 4 people. Only a God could do that in the real world, but if you don't believe than for you nobody can (Don't start anything about religion pleaassseeee lol).

I can name much more unreal things but I'm running out of time.

It's true that many action games are unrealistic in that sense, but I don't think that's what he meant when he said 'realistic'. Well, that's not what I mean when I talk about realism in a game.

It's the purpose of a game to have some sort of a hero as the main character. Only a few games will be totally realistic about that, maybe some War games (and even there...).

My definition of realism is more about how the game feels in relation to real life. Is the look of the environments credible, is it possible to play with this environnement (break glasses, lights, damage walls, etc.), and other things like that. I don't really care if the main character as to take thousands of enemies and would have been killed ten thousand times in real life.

Even sci-fi games can be realistic, although science-fiction is by definition fiction! But if it offers a universe that is coherent with his own rules and has ties to the real world, than I'll consider it as being 'realistic'.

SF compared to Final fantasy or Resident Evil is realistic... that's what I meant. It's Arcade, but realistic. I don't know FPS Simulation games. Counter-Strike maybe, when you're dead, you're dead and it's over. But it's not a solo game.

No, when you die in CS, you just have to wait 5 minutes for the last player to get out of the toilets.... (and CS is even less realistic than SF, it takes 2 9mm bullets to kill someone without helmet...)
